Rowlett Dance Academy was established in 1988 with a simple goal in mind: To be the premier performing arts studio east of Dallas. Our pursuit of excellence has led our dancers to be accepted into prestigious performing arts programs, receive scholarships from conventions and schools, score high marks in competitions, and go on to be the next generation of dance professionals. 

Enrollment starts at 2 years old and continues through adult. Come and try out your first class for free before enrolling!

Carol Ann Maggiotto

Artistic Director

Carol Ann Maggiotto holds a BA  from Southern Methodist University, MA from TWU, and has over 40 years teaching experience. Carol Ann began her dance training  at Ballet Academy of Tyler. She was an Apache Belle and show choir member at Tyler Junior College.  After moving to Dallas & graduating from SMU, she continued her studio dance training with ballet from Joyce Seabourne-Bader, jazz  with Lyndette Bader and tap with Terry Wolter and Buster Cooper.  Carol Ann’s  love of musical theatre came from working with NYC choreographers Utah Ground and Al Gilliam at TJC.  The highlight was dancing and singing back up to Sandy Duncan for an ABC movie of the week.  She has served as  Dance Captain in numerous musicals in the Dallas area  with her favorite roles being Dream Laurie from Oklahoma and Louise from Carousel. She studied with legends Joe Tremaine, Gus Giordano, David Howard, and Mia Michaels. She danced professionally with the Kesheth Company and the Pieces Ensemble.

 

Carol Ann is a member of the Dallas Dance Council, Dance Studio Owners Association, and Dallas Dance Network. Carol Ann gave back to the community by  serving as Chair of Rowlett's Arts and Humanities Commission for 7 years, Community Entertainment Coordinator for Rowlett’s  Pecan Fest and Festival of Freedom for 5 years. Even though being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016,  Carol Ann continues to stay on top of the latest dance trends by attending multiple dance conventions every year.   “My job is to make sure our students have strong technical  roots and then give them the wings to soar to their dreams.  I love that no matter how far they go in those pursuits and achievements, when in town they always come home to take class.”

Ryan Maggiotto

Business Manager/Teaching Assistant Program Director

Ryan is a student at Richland College, studying Psychology and Business after returning home from Tyler Junior College, where he studied Psychology and Dance.  Ryan began his dance training at age 3 with Ms. Molly, continued with Ms. Tina, Ms. Michelle, and Ms. Jill. He taught at Rowlett Dance Academy for 8 years.  He has danced the roles of Nutcracker, Arabian Prince, Chinese Prince, Dew Drop Cavalier, Blue Bird Pas and Prince Desire from Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella’s Prince Charming, Beast in Beauty & the Beast, and Prince Eric in Little Mermaid. Currently, Ryan is focused on and passionate about being the Director of the Teaching Assistant Program, of which has expanded and continues to improve. Ryan intends for this program to produce very talented students who will become future teachers in both education and dance. 

Kyra McCarty

Instructor/Performace Company Director

Kyra McCarty is a May 2010 graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama, receiving her diploma with a concentration in dance. In May 2014, she graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas with dual degrees in Dance (BFA) and Mathematics (BS). Throughout her dance career, she has received scholarships to train with Tremaine Dance Convention, Hubbard Street Dance/Lou Conte Dance Studio, Bates Dance Festival, and Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to train at various summer and winter intensives including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, International Ballet Competition, Ballet West, Ballet Memphis, and the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD). Ms. McCarty has numerous years of teaching experience with Dallas Black Dance Academy, Oxford Ballet School, and the Deborah Kaye School of Dance both in Oxford, Mississippi. Currently, Ms. McCarty performs and is rehearsal director for 8&1 Dance Company, in addition to serving as dance instructor and company director for Rowlett Dance Academy. She loves working with and inspiring students by nurturing their passions and helping them reach their full potential. 

Tiffany Hester

Instructor/Ballet Dept. Head/Ballet Company Director

Tiffany graduated from University of Maryland with a degree in Dance Education. She received her dance training from Steps on Broadway, New Jersey Ballet, Princeton Repertory Ballet, Garden State Ballet, and Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Tiffany has taught and choreographed all forms of dance for over 15 years.  Classically trained in ballet, Tiffany has performed lead roles in many.  Her favorites are the leads in Nutcracker and Coppelia. She has choreographed and directed productions of Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppelia and Don Quixote. She has been a Judge for both Starpower Nationals and Power of Dance Nationals dance competitions. Her company dancers have won national titles and her alumni students have continued their dance careers on Broadway and in professional dance companies.  With an eye for detail and an emphasis on technique, Tiffany enjoys creating unique pieces and helping dancers achieve their potential.

Nick Leos

Instructor

Nick Leos recently returned to the States after living in London where he received his Master’s Degree in Theatre Directing from the prestigious East15 Acting School at Essex.  While in London, he directed, choreographed or performed in: Antony & Cleopatra (Stockwell Playhouse, Off-West End); Free Solo: A New Musical (Drayton Arms Theatre, BEAM2018 Festival, Tristan Bates Theatre, Camden Fringe Festival); Danai Gurira and Nikkole Salter’s In the Continuum (Bread and Roses); Neaptide (Arcola, dir. Rosamunde Hutt); Romeo & Juliet (East 15, dir. Graham Watts); Educating Rita (Queens Theatre Hornchurch, dir. Rosalind Philips).

Nick received his BFA from Oklahoma State with additional training at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway in NY.  Nick was Assistant Director for the 1st National Tour of “Catch Me If You Can”, Dance Captain for “Kiss Me Kate” and dancer for “Bye Bye Birdie”, both with MUNY.   While in NYC, he kept very busy performing with Paul Taylor Dance, the Derek Mitchell Dance Company and the Barrow Group.  Nick served as director/choreographer for the Off-Broadway premier of “Press Play”, assistant choreographer for Control Freak Dance Co. and was a directing and choreography intern for the 2010 season at the MUNY Theatre.  You might have even seen him performing on TV’s “The Wendy Williams Show”.

In addition to teaching all genres of dance and dance levels from beginner to professional, Nick teaches musical theatre history, audition techniques, scene work and character development.  Nick has been an Adjunct Professor of Dance at N. Oklahoma College and Guest Teaching Artist at DreamYard Preparatory in Bronx, NY.

Katelyn Smith

Instructor

Katelyn has recently received her degree in Dental Assisting and finds working with children in pediatric surgery especially rewarding.  Katelyn’s love of children is quite evident when you watch her teaching them.  She  joined the Rowlett Dance Academy staff after being a student here for 18 years concentrating in ballet and pointe.  Katelyn was a teaching assistant for several teachers before being chosen by Ms. Carol Ann to be her student teacher in ballet and combo class.  She has a very warm and loving teaching style which makes her a big hit with our preschoolers. Katelyn continues her dance training by taking ballet and contemporary with Ms Tiffany.  Her favorite ballet role is "The Cookie Thief" from Alice In Wonderland.

Kaylee Bushman

Instructor

Kaylee has been dancing for 15 years, and has been on pointe for the past 7 of those! She studied ballet, jazz, and contemporary under the directions of Mrs. Carol Ann, Mrs. Katie Trevino and Mrs. Michelle. She performed in Rowlett Dance Academy's production of The Nutcracker for the past 12 years, most recently as a snowflake. A graduate of  Rockwall High School, Kaylee will be attending the University of Texas at Dallas in the fall. She will be studying speech pathology/audiology and intends to work with kids who have received cochlear implants, kids with special needs and pediatric trauma patients! 

Stephanie Yamauchi

Instructor/Rythmic Souls Affiliate

Stephanie Yamauchi has been tapping for thirteen years, ten of them with Stacey Gayan at Gotta Dance.   She has spent the last three years with Katelyn Harris and Rhythmic Souls Tap Company, dancing in the Hoofin' Crew and in the Pre-Professional company.  Stephanie is a sophomore studying at the University of Dallas and majoring in biology.  When she is not tapping, she loves to read, play piano and spend time with her cat.

Claudia Markarian

Instructor

Claudia received her degree in Musical Theatre while studying theatre, voice and dance at Glendale College and Occidental College.  While at Occidental, she concentrated on musical theatre, jazz and Latin styles of dance.  She was a two time Irene Ryan Acting Award nominee while studying Shakespeare at Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum.   Mrs. Claudia’s performance credentials include H.M.S. Pinafore and The Importance of Being Ernest at Hillside Repertoire Company, Guinevere in Camelot  and Aldonza in Man of La Mancha with Larry Gabriel Theatre Company, Ensemble in Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell and Grease.   She performed with comedy improv  group “Spin Cycle”  and appeared in the movies Bugsy and Mambo King.  She is active in the local Homeschool groups and has homeschooled her children the last 15 years.  You may remember Mrs. Claudia and her husband as they portrayed Clara’s parents in last year’s Nutcracker performance.  She is thrilled to be joining daughter Sofia as they share their passion for the stage at Rowlett Dance.

Audra Johnson Duncan

Instructor

Audra has studied and competed in all genres of dance for over 15  years.  She performed in numerous venues around the Metroplex.  She taught at Rowlett Dance several years before getting married and starting a family.   The love of dance never left and she is returning to her passion. “I am a wife and mother to three incredible children.  My two daughters have definitely followed in their mommy’s footsteps with a deep love of dance!  A standard my parents always taught me when I was younger is always stay hungry and humble, do your best in all things from the smallest, most simple to the big things.  I love the adrenaline rush of jazz, hip hop and tap, and feel my prettiest in a ballet class.”

Amanda Gohring

Instructor/Office Staff

Amanda joins our staff as both instructor and our marketing/social media guru.  She has been a staff instructor in all genres and age groups for over 9 years at Joy’s School of Dance in Waco and 2 years at several area studios since moving to the DFW area in 2017. She is a much sought after Master Class Teacher and Competition Choreographer.  She has been a Guest Choreographer for Baylor University Dance Company, TATD (Texas Association of Teachers of Dance),  Robinson H.S. Color Guard,  China Spring H. S. Drill Team, and Live Oak Classical School,

 

Amanda has a BBA from Tarleton State University where she majored in Marketing.  She is certified in tap instruction from TATD, is the Co-Founder of Miriam’s Army (a charitable dance ministry in East Waco), and volunteers at the Boys & Girls Club of America as well as Meals on Wheels.

Gabrielle Estabrooks

Student Teacher

Gabrielle is a home-schooled senior and has been dancing for 15 years. She has been a member of Rowlett Dance Academy's Allegro Ballet Company for 4 years and was a member of Spirit/Motion Performance Company. Gabrielle has enjoyed participating in the Nutcracker and May recitals for many years. One of her favorite Nutcracker roles was Ballerina Doll and she is excited to perform the roles of Clara and Snow Queen this year. She has also attended Dallas Ballet Center and participated in their Pre-Professional Program for three years. Gabrielle received the Golden Heart award and tied for first place in the junior division variation adjudication at the Classical Ballet Festival. She was selected for the Molly Beal Memorial Scholarship for High School. Gabrielle has been accepted to attend ballet summer programs with Tulsa Ballet Pointe to the Future, Cosmopolitan Ballet Theater Washington D.C., Joffrey Texas, and Ballet Chicago. Gabrielle is so thankful for all her Rowlett Dance Academy teachers and the opportunities they give her.
